Basic Textures and Lighting

So it's been a while since I updated this blog on the Progress of the bar. I'll sort of do a small refresher on what I'm trying to do with it. This is a personal project for a story idea I have that one of the main places is the bar in which events take place. Sci-fi story on a space station, or so the place that holds the bar is. The bar is designed to be an Old Irish Pub feel with a mixture of new tech in it but kept hidden from the eye.

The scene itself I've gone through and tweaked here and there added in a few things and mainly since my last post went back and textured everything with the basic texture designs to make the bar feel more of a bar than a 3D scene. A few things I've done include:

-Textured scene with basic textures ( they need to be gone through and cleaned up still to get the realism)
- Finished Bar Back (the piece that houses and displays liquors and glasses)
- Added in a few glasses (One unique Rock glass, set of Rock Glasses, Highballer's, Basic Wine Glasses, one unique beer mug)
-Added in walls and ceiling

Things that still need to be done to the bar and restaurant area include:

-Add in beer Taps
- add in back of bar drink holder (an edge around the back of the bar to hold drinks as they are being poured or made)
- Ice holder behind bar (one side for ice alone another side filled with ice holding bottled beers.
- Wine Racks
- Sink
-dance floor
-lights
and so much more, but those all come later.

I do have some Pics of my latest renders. These are done with BASIC lights, and the beginnings of my textures for the scene so this is just a starting point for me.

A different Perspective

After talking to a friend of mine and discussing the designs I'm working on he wanted to see the pub in textures. I told him I didn't want to do that till I got the main bar area done to give a complete scene to look at. He recommended that I at least give the basic texture colors the proper colors to be used in the actual design. I thought that was a goo idea just to see the basic colors.

He also said that looking at the bar at different angles would be nice. I decided that might be right as well so I went through and took a look at the bar as a whole thus far at different angles for everyone to see.

I'm still looking at my liquor designs but am leaning to not using the first design and just using the column design else where in the bar. I'm also thinking of making the dance floor behind the first set of tables and have a square ring of tables around the dance floor.

Liquor Display design 2

After making the column and my first design for my liquor display and storage behind the bar counter. I took the design of the head piece and used an old style a decorational design on the boarder of the top. Also, after making the shelves and looking over it I have decided to make the bottom cupboards have decorational doors. I want the liquor display to be one of the most decorational pieces in the bar as the bar will be the most used place besides maybe a VIP set up for fine dinning, but that wont be a large area and will be(if I decide to make it) on a second floor looking over a dance floor area in the bar.

The design is not finished by a long shot, but this is the min starting point of How I want it set up. I am still deciding on how the column pieces made in my previous post will be used and if I want to incorporate the old design into this one as well or not.

Liquor Display

I started up the rest of the liquor display and re sized a few items in the bar as well to make it the proper size. I'm still working on the design for the whole thing and used one piece as a test to see if I will continue the way it is or stop take the column and restart the selves.

I'm leaning toward making the self unit again and attaching the column later. The design thus far Is not exactly to my Liking and will be looking for a second opinion from a fellow animator and 3d artist on his thoughts.

Liquor Display references and Start

After Looking at the bar scene and starting to set up the way I wanted things to be placed I Decided to start up on the next pieces needed. I wanted to make the liquor display shelves for behind the bar. A large cabinet shelf unit that held wines and liquors that are used on a regular basis. I wanted to make this piece more intricate and have a grand design to it since it would be a piece that people would look at and would be more central to the view of the bar. I decided to look into some designs and see what I could make myself.

These were some of the pics I found and decided to use as reference for my own design. I sat down after looking around at designs and decided to start my own and forced myself to remember how to create a column with a capital with a greek or roman curled top to it. I will sit down and make some tutorials sometime on how I made some of these pieces, but for now I'll just post the results of my work this morning while listening to Irish music and getting into the feel of the bar. Why not I got Irish blood running through my veins.

This is the start of the columns on the sides of the cabinet mimicking the first reference picture. I will be adding the shelves in later this week. I will also have on either side a section with diamond figured slots to lay in bottled wines and such for the bar. will post reference pictures and results when I got to that point.

Bar Start Up

After going through and looking at each piece of the bar and refrences on the designes I was looking for I made up a handful of the pieces that I was going to use to start the bar up and create. I wanted to make sections that I could use and duplicate and then attach and weld together to create the design as a whole. The basic renders of these are as follows:

After creating the basic pieces to duplicate and mold together to create the basic shape of the bar I went and made pieces of the bar such as the stool and table also a barrel tap. This barrel I wanted to use in the bar as a real tap like in the old days holding beer that was meant to be served at room temperature like with some of the German beers so I created a model to do just that with at the bar.

After the basic pieces were made I decided to actually start piecing things together to get a basic feel of the bar and how I wanted things set up. I added in a glass or two and started things off.

More to come as I create more pieces of the bar such as items as the shelves for holding and displaying the liqure, liqure bottles, glass holders, beer containers behind the bar for holding ice and bottled beers, and much more such items for The Old Irish. I guess i'll have to go with CHEERS!
